Purple funky french

Well, here I have some pictures I'm not that happy with. This is from 2013 and was when I was in the middle of my thesis project in university. I'd worn these nails for some time before I was able to take the pictures so sadly the pearl rhinestone show some serious wear, the color was pink but the plastic base is showing. However I like the nail art it self, purple and blue and some white glitter.

Oopsie Daisies - Moonside, swatch

Time for a swatch and here is a polish I bought ages ago..A pity considering how beautiful it looks. It's a black jelly filled with matte blue and yellow micro glitter (and the yellow sometime look green under the black jelly) and then there's small red matte hexagons. Here I've used 4 coats but next time I'll use a black creme and then perhaps 2 coats of Moonside since I still want the jelly effect. This one is top coat heavy, it's almost textured without it (see bottom pic without tc) and I actually used 2 coats of SV to make it super shiny and smooth even though it could work with just one coat too. As a summary I really like this polish; I like the glitter density, the glitter colors and the jelly effect.

Oopsie Daises - Pick More Daisies 2

For this Green Wednesday I have polish without any notes, maybe because I had a bad experience with it. The polish for today is "Oopsie Daises - Pick More Daisies II" which is a green jelly like polish filled with tiny shimmer, glitter, tiny white hexagons and big flower shaped glitter. From what I remember I didn't have to fish for the flower glitter, not much at least. I remember that I used something like 4-5 coats, probably 5. Basically this looks very nice, it's some VNL but that's not visible IRL. The color is bright and joyful. The problem was the drying time, I actually planned wearing this polish for a couple of days, but after more than an hour, maybe two the polish still wasn't dry. My whole left thumb nail got the polish "peeled off" and my right hand got ugly wrinkles.. So I had to remove it and put something else on. Such a pity.. You like it?

The unfortunate wrinkly look....

Do you think I should give this polish another chance? Maybe layer it over a green polish or let it have maximum drying time?

Black and white glitter gradient

Pretty stoked I realized that I had two black and white manicures in the archive and I decided to take one of them for this Nail Art Sunday at Lelack where the per-determined theme was black & white. I love B&W nail art's and I'm looking forward to see what everyone has come up with.

My nail art below is pretty simple. Just some dabbing with glitter, trying to create a gradient. I've also used some loose hex glitter and tried placing them random enough to fit the gradient. As you see I have two accent nails which are color inverted, looked pretty cool to me. :)

Is it some days you have more or less time to do nail related things; painting, blogging, reading blogs, comments etc? Or do you just take the time to do what you want no matter what?

Oopsie Daises - Mojito Mist, swatch

We're continuing with the green week that Vacker&Underbar suggested that bloggers could join. Is this because green is the best color ever? Well, green is awesome but the real reason behind it is because October is Depression Awareness Month. Therefore we're a bunch of ladies showing green polishes and also tries to share valuable information about depression.

I've written some things before in my previous posts so if you missed those posts you can read them too. In the comments there has come up a lot of useful tips that I'd like to talk about here; which is about what kinds of things a person suffering from depression can do if talking to a "shrink" feels too much or perhaps if you want to do something additional. Of cause every case of depression is unique so I can't say that everything will work to everybody but maybe it's worth trying? Studies have shown a connection with an increased feeling of well being if exercising, and don't necessarily means that you got to hit the gym, a small walk counts! Polished Marvels also pointed out that doing something creative, with your hands, also is good. And then we have this about eating correct and balanced, studies also show that vitamin D and Omega-3 play an important role. Eating nutritional supplement of those can be a good choice, vitamin D can be extra important for us who live far north and the sun isn't present all round the year. As you probably know, we can either eat vitamin D (fish, eggs and vitamin D enriched dairy's) or be in the sun where our body can "create" vitamin D and store it for a while. Scientist have found correlations between winter darkness and depression and suspects that Vitamin D is the missing ingredient. Another thing that people talk about is light therapy, now there's headphones giving light therapy and some people claims that it has helped them. I don't know if it works for everybody but why not? Now I've written far to much text again so let's look at the polish.. :)

The green polish I'm showing today is Oopsie Daises - Mojito Mist and when I saw it at Sminkan&Emma I just knew that I had to have it, seconds after I had bought it. First of all the name, mojito (if it's correctly done) is my favorite drink and than the actual polish looks really fun and unique. The base is light green, minty and there's white glitter an shredded green glitter. The shredded green glitter really looked like the muddled mojitos and I imagine the white glitter to be ice. I think I used two thicker coats for this.

White glitter gradient on green base

The pink week is over by now but Karin at Vacker&underbar brought some attention to the fact that October also means Depression Awareness Month which has the color green , which made her to decide to have a green week, hence United in Green. This is not the same thing as cancer where we can buy pins and donate money but I still think it's important to bring attention to it.

It's like a hidden disease filled with prejudices, one depression isn't similar to another, and they maybe don't need the same treatment. And there's one thing feeling blue, another to feel depressed due to a fail or loss and then there's clinical depression etc. And some people say that one should just cheer up but sometime it's not as simple as that, sometime it's about needing support from friends and family, someone that listen, and some time it's the opposite; to talk with someone outside the family and in some cases medicating.

With this post I'd like to point out that if you know someone that you know that is feeling down or depressed, give them a hug and/or some love. If you feel depressed, do something that makes you happy or in some situations the best thing is to search for help.. I know some people who have found joy in polish collecting and polish painting, it has become some sort of healing. How quirky it ever may be, what ever makes you happy is good.

This manicure made me happy when I wore it at least. I wore it during this summer and well, green is a great color. I'm also really found of these reversed glitter gradients. Hope you like it.

Oopsie Daisies - Ladybug, swatch

Hi, this Thuesday I'll show you my favorite red polish which is from the indie brand Oopsie Daises and is called Ladybug. The name is perfect for the polish since it's jelly with the color "english red" filled with matte black hexagons in two sizes. The color becomes much more vibrant red on the nails than the bottle as you can see in the pictures. I used 3 coats but 2 would probably do for shorter nails, IRL the VNL wasn't that noticeable at all but I've tried layer this polish over a regular red and that worked too. I noticed that it was important to spread/place the glitter with the first coat, otherwise the glitter starts to cluster like on my middle finger on second and third coat. I also used 2 coats of SV to make it super smooth and even more glossy than before. Do I need to say I really loved this?! Now, that we established that this is beautiful I'm going to tell you the bad parts..after I'd removed the polish I had the most ugly stains ever; red dotted stains where the black glitter had been. My nails looked like if they had a decease and the staining took months to go away. It's still my favorite red but next time I'll use double coats of base coat..
